8/1/24: Today we hosted families from the Victory Gallop organization of Akron, Ohio.
Victory Gallop is a nonprofit organization that "provides therapeutic and recreational horseback riding for children with behavioral and / or emotional challenges and life-threatening illnesses".
We introduced these families of aspiring anglers to the basics of casting along with the proper handling and releasing of fish. We also discussed the importance of respecting our outdoors and leaving our areas better than how we found them.
After a delicious cookout lunch, we provided each new angler their very own fishing rod / reel combo, stocked tackle box, fishing hat, fishing shirt, and "how to" fishing book.
We are thankful for spending time with this this fun group from the Victory Gallop organization and look forward to sharing time with them again soon

7/25/24: Today our nonprofit organization Cast It Forward spent the day with the fun, spirited youngsters from the Boys & Girls Club of NEO.
The Boys & Girls Club’s mission is "to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens".
We are honored and proud to do our part in helping them fulfill their mission.
We shared time today fishing and learned about how to properly cast and retrieve, safely handle and release fish, enjoyed the outdoors, and talked about our responsibility to respect nature and to leave our outdoor areas better than how we found them.
After a tasty cookout lunch, and at the end of our day together, we talked about the benefits of spending time outside and the joy of sharing the experience with others.
With the goal of encouraging continued participation in our great sport and awe-inspiring outdoors, we then provided each participant with their very own brand-new fishing rod / reel combo, stocked tackle box, fishing hat, fishing shirt, "how to" fishing book, and custom frisbee.
It was a fun filled, active day spent with the great kids from the BGCNEO, and we look forward to sharing time outside with them again soon.

7/23/24: Our Cast It Forward crew recently welcomed families from the Integrated Community Solutions organization.
ICS is an organization whose mission is to support adults with developmental disabilities so that they may have a safe, inclusive, meaningful life.
It was a beautiful day of spending time outside, catching lots of fish, making new friends and enjoying delicious food!
At the end of our day together and in the spirit of our mission to “Cast It Forward”, we gifted each participant their very own fishing rod / reel combo, stocked tackle box, “how to” fishing book, and fishing hat to continue their fishing journey.
We look forward to spending time together again with the awesome families from ICS very soon!

7/20/24: Recently, our organization Cast It Forward was invited to participate in a weekend retreat put on by the Legacy of Honor organization.
Legacy of Honor’s mission is “Serving those who serve us”, and their goal is “to serve Veterans, First Responders and their Families by standing with them when they need our help “.
Attended by over 40 veterans, first responders and their families, our purpose was to provide a fun, outdoor fishing element to the weekend’s activities.
After a brief instruction period, the guests and their families spent a few action filled hours together catching fish from a stocked pond located on the event’s property.
Afterward, in the spirit of our mission to “Cast It Forward”, we then gifted each participant their very own fishing rod / reel combo, stocked tackle box, “how to” fishing book, and fishing hat to continue their fishing journey.
We are grateful for the opportunity to have shared our great sport and awe-inspiring outdoors with the Legacy of Honor veterans, first responders and their families. We look forward to spending outdoor and fishing time with them again soon.

7/17/24: Recently our organization Cast It Forward held our 3rd Annual event in support of the children from the Cornerstone of Hope Organization.
The Cornerstone of Hope's mission is to "offer grieving individuals and families a safe space to cope with their loss and emerge from their pain with a renewed sense of purpose".
Attended by over 120 people, our goal was to bring care and compassion through our mission of providing outdoor and fishing opportunities to those who otherwise would not have the opportunity.
It was a fun filled, busy day. Our organization provided access to the water via boat rides on our organization's Hewescraft Boats fishing vessel, hands on casting instruction, Therapy Dogs from The Alliance of Therapy Dogs organization, Frisbee Golf, Cornhole, and a huge cookout lunch!
At the end of our day together, we spoke about the healing power and benefits of spending time outside. In the hope of spurring continued participation in our great sport and awe-inspiring outdoors, we then provided every participant with their very own fishing rod, stocked tackle box, fishing hat, fishing shirt, "how to" fishing book, and custom frisbee.
It was an unbelievable day spent with this inspiring group of youngsters and their supporters and we are thankful for our time spent together. We look forward to our annual event again next year.

7/11/24: Today our Nonprofit Organization Cast It Forward welcomed awesome families from the Down Syndrome Association of Northeast Ohio.
During the day’s activities attendees were instructed on proper cast and retrieve techniques, treated to an extended boat ride on our organization’s Hewescraft Boats ProV200 HT ET vessel, enjoyed a delicious cookout lunch and of course, caught lots of fish!!!
At the end of our day together and in the spirit of our “Cast It Forward” mission, we provided each participant with their very own fishing rod / reel combo, stocked tackle kit, fishing hat, fishing shirt, and “how to” fishing book.
It was a fun day spent with this inspiring group and we look forward to spending time together again soon with the great people from the DSANEO.

7/2/24: Today our Nonprofit Organization Cast It Forward welcomed families from Stewart's Caring Place: Cancer Wellness Center for a fun filled day of outdoor activities.
Stewart’s Caring Place is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to “offer supportive services & programs for individuals and families on their cancer journey.”
Attendees were shown how to properly cast, retrieve and safely handle caught fish, treated to an extended boat ride on our organization’s Hewescraft Boats vessel, enjoyed a delicious cookout lunch, played some frisbee golf and spent time simply relaxing by the water.
As is our custom and in the spirit of our “Cast It Forward” mission, we provided each participant with their very own fishing rod / reel combo, stocked tackle kit, fishing hat, fishing shirt, and “how to” fishing book.

6/18/24: A huge part of our Cast It Forward mission is to share our love, joy, and passion for our great sport and awe-inspiring outdoors with those who otherwise would not have the opportunity.
It is even more gratifying when we can share this passion with children and their families who are dealing with unfortunate circumstances.
Such was the case today as we welcomed fun, outgoing, families from the A Special Wish Northeast Ohio Chapter. Each participant was treated to a full day of outdoor fun, boat rides, cookout lunch, and of courses - fishing!
At the end of our day together and in the spirit of our “Cast It Forward” mission, we provided each aspiring angler with their very own fishing rod / reel combo, stocked tackle kit, fishing hat, fishing shirt, and “how to” fishing book.
We hope to inspire each participant into continued participation and ongoing appreciation for our great sport and outdoors.

6/4/24: Our Cast It Forward mission is to share our great sport and awe-inspiring outdoors with those who otherwise would not have the opportunity.
In this spirit, today we welcomed avid young anglers Parker and Max along with their dads Tim and Robb for a morning of great walleye action.
Walleye Nation Creations Reapers in “Atomic Shad” and “John Deere 60’- 110’ back unassisted, along with Tommy Harris custom painted baits “Nemo” and “Green Goblin” 80’ - 140’ back unassisted, and Dipsey / Stinger combos at #0 40’ - 75’ back was our program today.
Water visibility was 4’, winds were W @ 8 mph with dense fog for most of the morning, barometric pressure read 31.00 InHg, water surface temperature 66 degrees and trolling speeds run between 1.7 - 2.0 mph.
Today’s trip was made possible by a generous donation made by daughter Amy Dixon Johnson and family in loving memory of husband, father, and veteran Richard “Dick” G. Dixon Jr.
A US Army veteran, Dick was a larger than life presence standing 6-foot, 6 inches tall. He was a strong man of great integrity who was always looking to make life better and easier for those around him.
Dick raised one daughter, and also had the opportunity to experience the joys of being a grandfather to one granddaughter who lovingly called him "Porker Pig".
Dick lived an incredibly full life and his family is proud of the legacy he left behind. We are just as honored to share his story with you.
6/1/24: Today our Nonprofit organization Cast It Forward had US Army Veteran Darbey and his lovely wife Diane on board with us for a great morning of very fast walleye action.
We concentrated our efforts in 45’-50’ of water targeting suspended schools of fish. The bite was aggressive, and the action was fast. Darbey and Diane caught a nice mixed bag of fish including one heavy catfish and a true Lake Erie trophy walleye measuring 28” long and weighing over 8 pounds!
The water temperature read 65 degrees, winds S <10 mph, water clarity 5’ , barometric pressure 31.26 InHg and trolling speed 1.8 - 2.0 mph.
A variety of lures proved to be successful. Walleye Nation Creations Reapers in Atomic Shad, John Deer, and Patriot run 70’-110’ back unassisted, Tommy Harris custom painted “Nemo” and “Green Goblin” unassisted 80-120’ back, and the Dipsey / Stinger combo run at 0 setting 40’-75’ back all consistently caught our fish today.

5/31/24: Today our Nonprofit organization Cast It Forward had first time Lake Erie walleye anglers Don and his son Shane on board with us for a great morning of fast walleye action.
Don, who served in the US Army National Guard, wanted to experience all that our Great Lake has to offer with his son.
We concentrated our efforts in 48-52’ of water targeting suspended schools of fish and were fortunate to share a great morning together of catching fish and enjoying our Great Lake.
The water temperature read 63 degrees, winds SW <10 mph, water clarity 5’ , barometric pressure 31.31 InHg and trolling speed 1.8 - 2.0 mph.
A variety of lures proved to be successful. Walleye Nation Creations Reapers in Atomic Shad, John Deer and Tommy Harris custom painted “Nemo run unassisted 80-100’ back, and the Dipsey / Stinger combo run at 0 setting 40’-60’ back also contributed to the cause today.

5/24/24: Today our Nonprofit organization Cast It Forward had the honor and pleasure to welcome Mr. Lloyd Eugene “Gene” Wright on board with us for a great morning of walleye action. Also joining along with “Mr. Gene” was his son-in-law Chris.
A true inspiration, Mr. Gene proudly served our country during WWII as a member of the US Navy. Even now at 98 years of age, he is active, mobile and fully engaged.
We concentrated our efforts in 35’- 45’ of water targeting suspended schools of fish. We had an awesome morning together of catching fish on a beautiful, flat lake.

5/21/24: Today our Nonprofit organization Cast It Forward had the honor and pleasure to have Amanda and Ashley, two Iraq war veterans, on board with us for a great morning of walleye action.
Ashley, an Akron native, had never been on Lake Erie nor had she ever caught a walleye before. Amanda a native of Louisiana, also joined us during our adventure to fish, and provide support for her fellow female vet.
We concentrated our efforts in 40’-48’ of water targeting suspended schools of fish. We had a great morning together of catching fish, telling stories and simply enjoying our Great Lake.

4/9/24: Today our Nonprofit organization Cast It Forward had the honor and pleasure to have four Erie County veterans from the Erie County VSC on board with us for a memorable morning of springtime walleye fishing.
We concentrated our efforts just off the can and reef complex looking to intercept any fish moving into and around the area. Our strategy proved successful, and we were rewarded with a nice cooler full of fish.
The water temperature read 47 degrees, winds SW <10 mph, water clarity 2’, barometric pressure 29.43 InHg and trolling speed 1.4 mph. A variety of lures proved to be successful. WNC Reapers in Atomic Shad and Black Frog and Reef Runners in Cat / Dog and Barbie run anywhere from 40’ - 80’ back unassisted all proved productive.

4/22/24: Today our Nonprofit organization Cast It Forward welcomed members from the Ottawa County based Team VIAC Training Center, an organization dedicated to veterans by “giving back through life changing experiences “.
With the warming water temps and unstable weather patterns recently, the lake and fish conditions are changing on a daily basis. Today we spent the day searching for and catching a mixed bag of spawned out fish. Although the fishing was somewhat inconsistent, we still managed to put a nice box of fish in the boat.
The lake’s surface temperature read 52’, winds were WSW @ 10, water clarity 2’, trolling speeds 1.5 mph and barometric pressure at 30.15 inHg. Walleye Nation Creations Reapers in Anti-Freeze and Wonder Bread 100-120’ back, Tommy Harris custom painted Night Stalker 80’ back, and Reef Runner “Cat / Dog” 60’ back all produced today.

4/30/24: Today our Nonprofit organization Cast It Forward welcomed members from the Ottawa County based Team VIAC Training Center, an organization dedicated to veterans by “giving back through life changing experiences “. We also welcomed onboard as a special guest, local outdoor writing legend D'Arcy Egan. D’arcy was on board with us to learn more about our organization and to gather information for an upcoming article he is writing.
Today we spent the morning targeting and catching a mixed bag of pre and post spawn fish. These fish are moving constantly in and out of their spawning areas and it’s not uncommon at any moment to catch both pre and post spawn fish.
The lake’s surface temperature read 57 degrees, winds were WSW @ 10, water clarity 2’, trolling speeds 1.8 mph and barometric pressure at 29.93 inHg.
Our best lures and leads were Walleye Nation Creations Reapers in Anti-Freeze, Hunke Hammer, and Purple Tiger patterns run unassisted at 30’-80’ back and Bandits in Blue Shiner and Glare patterns run unassisted at 30’- 60’ back.
