A Family’s Special Walleye Morning

Every event or fishing excursion our Cast It Forward organization holds is always special in a myriad of ways

On this morning, we had a family group fishing together, that because of some real-life extenuating circumstances made our time together even more special, meaningful and poignant.

Joining us was devoted mom Shannon, her awesome son Gray, grandmother Sharon, and grandfather, veteran and retired first responder Larry.

Our morning together was an enjoyable mix of conversation, laughter, story telling, and of course- catching fish!

Grey was a fast learner and caught his first ever walleye along with many others. Shannon showed everyone who was boss by reeling in a 29”, 10 pound trophy walleye, while both grandparents also contributed to the cause.

In the end we had an unforgettable morning together filled with great memories while catching lots of fish in the process.

We are truly grateful for Shannon, Gray, Larry, and Sharon’s participation in our program and wish them all nothing but the very best.

Early Spring Veteran Walleye Trip

4/28/25 Huron, Ohio: Today our Nonprofit organization welcomed Marine Veteran Chris, Army Veteran Al, and Marine & Army Veteran Allen on board.

These men joined us through our relationship with the Ottawa County based Team VIAC Training Center, an organization dedicated to veterans by “giving back through life changing experiences".

Today we spent the morning targeting and catching a mixed bag of pre and post spawn fish. These fish are on the move and it’s not uncommon to catch a mixture of both.

The lake’s surface temperature read 56 degrees, winds were SSW@ 10, water clarity < 2’, trolling speeds 1.6 - 1.8 mph and barometric pressure at 29.93 inHg.

Our best patterns and leads were blue/ silver / chartreuse based and run unassisted at 30’-80’ back.

Please join us in thanking veterans and Team VIAC members Chris, Al and Allen for fishing with us today and for their dedicated service to our country.
